We’ve talked about commodities that are valued highly by professional evaluators, and it’s true that power is a tool that seems to be growing in value as the scarcity of it in the big leagues becomes more prominent. But, the tool that never seems to waver in value is pure speed. No matter how much teams seek it out, there are still very few players in Major League Baseball that can change the game with their legs. And, to be clear, there is plenty of raw speed around, but a player being able to use it effectively on the bases and in the field is not something scouts can find everyday.
