Wednesday’s Florida 5A semifinal contest between Tampa Jesuit and American Heritage will mean a trip to Friday’s championship game but also a #1 ranking as the teams sit in the top two spots of this week’s Regional Rankings. American Heritage makes the two spot jump after Olympia (FL) and Harvard-Westlake (CA) each dropped games the past week.

Tonight’s Arizona Division I championship game will also feature a matchup of two ranked teams as No. 41 Chaparral takes on No. 45 Brophy Prep. Also, No. 14 Tomball will take on No. 50 Klein in a Texas 5A regional quarterfinal quarterfinal series this weekend.

Bishop Gorman (NV) moves up a couple of spots this week in spite of a scare in the regional tournament. The Gaels dropped their first game in the state of Nevada since 2011 against Arbor View in the Sunset Regional tournament, before coming back to win the tournament by avenging the loss with a pair of victories over Arbor View. MLB Draft prospect 3B Joey Gallo reportedly sat 97-100 mph on the mound in relief during the championship game on Saturday.

Inclement weather wreaked havoc on the UIL playoffs in Texas, as several key series games were washed out over the weekend. As a result, several contenders who lost their series opener saw their season end with a tarp on the field. Unfortunately this led to No. 23 Seven Lakes and No. 41 Spring Branch Memorial being bounced in the Area (second) Round of the 5A playoffs to fall out of the National top 50. Several other series’ were cut short as well, as No. 6 Calallen and No. 10 Corpus Christi Carroll each won their abbreviated series with a 1-0 victory to survive and advance.

Archbishop McCarthy (FL) comes in at No. 8 and are looking for their 3rd straight Florida state championship as well as their 2nd straight PG National Championship. Columbus (FL) is No. 8 this week and three Georgia teams (Parkview, Columbus, and Gainesville) are also in the top 15.

Barbe (LA) has completed their season with a 5A state championship and St. Piux (TX) won the TAPPS title over rival St. Thomas.

New additions this week: No. 26 Ashley Ridge (SC), No. 28 Bishop Verot (FL), No. 41 Chaparral (AZ), No. 46 Cherry Creek (CO), No. 47 Providence Catholic (IL), No. 48 Spruce Creek (FL), No. 49 Lee’s Summit (MO), and No. 50 Klein (TX).
