Midseason Field of 64 Projection

Craig Cozart      Vincent Cervino
It’s been an amazing first half of the year and one of the more unpredictable seasons in recent memory. There have been unexpected struggles from some of our preseason favorite clubs like Wake Forest, LSU, and Florida. While others like FSU, Kentucky and Nebraska have emerged from the shadows into the limelight. Along the way, we have seen epic individual performances at the plate from Charlie Condon, Travis Bazzana and Drew Burress. On the flip side, Hagen Smith, Luke Holman, and Jamie Arnold has showed swing and miss stuff at an unprecedented rate. While there is much to be decided yet based on current status, trending, and future forecasted performance, we take a stab at what the “Field of 64” may look like come the beginning of June.

The field is dominated by banner years in the SEC and ACC so far, as both leagues have (3) national seeds and a total of (20) participants across the board. The No. 1 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks are also the No. 1 National Seed and are followed by (3) Texas A&M and (7) Tennessee on the National Seed front. Four other SEC teams will host as well with (9) Kentucky, (11) South Carolina, (12) Florida and (13) Vanderbilt getting the nod. The ACC leads the way with four National Seeds as (2) Clemson, (4) North Carolina, (5) Florida State and (8) Virginia spearheads the charge on the East Coast. Oregon State is the only West Coast host sight as the Beavers will be the No. 6 National Seed. The mid-majors are getting strong representation as (10) East Carolina hosts again and the middle of the country is taken care of by (14) Indiana State, (15) Dallas Baptist and (16) Nebraska.
