College Top 25: March 11

Vincent Cervino      Craig Cozart
It’s hard to believe it but we are already a full month into the season and for the first time we will see some movement within the Top-5. There were some exciting opening series in conference play and leagues get into full swing this coming weekend. We were also treated to some epic pitching performances and continue to see runs put up in bunches as high-powered offenses around the country pummel down the line pitching.

We have a new No. 1 in the Arkansas Razorbacks (13-2) as they collected 4 wins this week on the strength of their dominant pitching staff and their rotation full of potential 1st round picks. LSU (14-2) slides up to No. 2 as they continue to find wins with late inning heroics and a pitching staff that is settling in nicely. No. 3 Texas A&M (16-0) is still playing like an Omaha favorite with their blend of power bats and electric arms. Oregon State (15-1) moves into the Top-5 for the first time this year and land at No. 4 as they continue to collect wins at a high rate. Meanwhile, the Duke Blue Devils (13-2) ascend to No. 5 as they went on the road in their first ACC series and took down previous No. 1 Wake Forest (12-3) who falls to No. 6 this week.

No. 9 TCU (14-2) finally hit the road and dropped their first conference series to the upstart Kansas Jayhawks and exit the Top-5 for the first time. The Florida Gators (10-5) continue to drop games and leave the Top-10 as they land at No. 11 this week. No. 13 Dallas Baptist (13-2) jumped a few teams on the quality of their play and challenging schedule to this point in the season. No. 17 Virginia (14-3) takes a dive as they were one inning away from getting swept at Miami and have some work to do in the bullpen. We have two new faces in the poll as well, with No. 24 Campbell (11-4) jumping in as 3 of their 4 losses this season are against ranked opponents. The California Bears (11-3) round out the rankings at No. 25 and could qualify as one of the biggest early season surprises thus far.

Be sure to follow the action this week as the conference slate starts to get into full swing this weekend.
