If the talent level in the Valley League this summer was a little more difficult than normal to get a grip on, it was perfectly understandable. It was a strange year in the league, in a number of ways.

There were no dominant teams, no dominant players. And the league’s eight-team playoffs didn’t play out at all according to form as the championship series,
