Sam Higginbotham is a 2017 RHP/3B with a 5-11 155 lb. frame from Orange Park, FL who attends Trinity Christian Academy. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout frame. Ran a 7.48 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, full arm action coming through the back and showed multiple arm angles and slots at release, varied with intent. Leg lift up slightly past belt, short stride down the mound but lands online with front foot. Mostly arm at release, topped out at 74 mph from three-quarters slots, generated sinking life from sidearm slot and worked down in the zone consistently. Threw a curveball from all arm slots up to 61 mph, occasional 12-6 shape from higher slot. Gets hitters off balance and out front, induces weak contact early in count. Whippy arm action with lower slot release across the infield, fields the ball out front, long strides charging in on ball, accurate across with arm strength that will continue to develop. Righthanded hitter at the plate, begins with a straight stance in the box. Upper body swing, keeps hands close to body, swings hard and generates bat speed through the zone. Contact to all fields off the barrel with two handed finish, will continue to develop with additional physical strength. Good student.
