Mathew De La Cruz is a 2018 SS/2B with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Edinburg, TX who attends Robert Vela HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 6.93 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with smooth, athletic footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling out front. Quick, compact exchanges while working through transfer and released from a compact three-quarters arm slot. Flashed ability to change arm slot while throwing on the run. Created good carry across the infield with developing accuracy, topped at 83 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance. Coils hands at load and works to contact on a loose, extended path. Line drive barrel plane through extension but flashed some natural lifted when connecting with baseball out front. Showed present bat speed with strength at contact and produced hard, loud contact when squared to each gap. Excellent student as well.
