Liam Owens is a 2016 LHP/1B with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Minot, ND who attends Minot. Medium atheltic frame with present strength. On the mound shows long arm actions from a high 3/4 slot. Creates good torgue with an upper half turn that shows numbers at balance point. Fastball has good arm side run ranging from 76-78 mph. Vertical command varies at times with a tendency to leave fastball up in the zone. Slider shows good bite and shape that topped at 72 mph. Slider was best pitched, often used as an out pitch. Flashed a curveball with 1/7 shape and some depth as well, topped at 68 mph. Curveball primarily set up Slider. Also threw a changeup with fading actions and deceptive arm speed, topped at 71 mph. Most effective when front side stays on line on offering. Produced more swings and misses when mixing pitches effectively. Left handed hitter with a balanced stance and quiet mechanical actions. Present strength to swing with solid bat speed. Looks to throw bat head and produce hard pull side contact with a line drive swing plane. Worked at 1B as well showing a 3/4 slot with uphill direction. Has some range to each side with deliberate glove actions. Projects higher on the mound. Good student as well.
