2007 Rising Juniors National Showcase
Todd Orta is a 2009 OF/3B/SS/P with a 6'0'', 170 lb. frame from Peoria, AZ who attends Centennial HS. He has a lean and athletic body with at least on present day plus tool that stands out. That present day tool is a plus outfield arm that may also translate someday to the mound. Orta is a talented and projectable young player and should be followed closely by major D1 programs and eventually by pro scouts. He has bat speed and a line drive swing that will eventually provide some gap power, if not a bit more. Defensively he displayed a quick outfield release which coupled with his aggressive approach to the ball and plus arm strength gives Orta a chance to be an outstanding rightfielder. On the mound he has a quick arm that works from a high 3/4 slot. His 82-86 mph fastball has some life and sink action, with projectable velocity. Orta's breaking ball has some quick bite action. He threw strikes and pitched with good tempo. He just might develop the type of stuff that with his approach will give him a chance to close games.
