J.J. Engman is a 2018 C with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Newcastle, WA who attends O'Dea HS. Solid catcher's build for his age, some present strength with more to come. Gets low behind the plate, good shifting ability, tends to stand up instead of moving forward when throwing, has good hand quickness in his exchange and release, accurate on line throws, 2.12 best pop time, has the catching tools and strength to keep improving. Right handed hitter, straight stance, strides well into contact with good weight shift, tends to reach for the ball and lengthen his swing, will need to learn to shorten and use his strength, line drive swing plane. Good student.
