Sean Downey is a 2017 3B/SS, OF, RHP with a 6-0 190 lb. frame from Elizabeth, NJ who attends Elizabeth High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, takes short steps to the ball and moves well to it, fields the ball out front, gets on top of throws with full arm action, strength and carry across, athletic on the charger. Shorter arm action from the outfield, comes out of hand well from higher release point, developing footwork, nice carry to intended base. Also pitched, works exclusively out of the stretch, tight arm action coming thorough the back and to a high three-quarters arm slot. Generates some plane to fastball with short running life, topped out at 81 mph, throws all three pithes for strikes, feel for changeup at 68 mph, maintains arm slot. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and pulls back at start of swing. Short and quick swing and gets the barrel through the zone well, fires hips into contact and generates strength to pull side. Shows ability to turn on inner half, hard contact coming off the barrel with loud jump, swings hard, occasionally gets to front side early. Named to Sunshine Northeast Top Prospect List. Very good student.
