Seth Blair is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Rock Falls HS, residing in Rock Falls, IL. Blair is athletically built with a strong yet flexible body type and a 6'2" 190 lb. frame. He has some room to fill out and should he maintain his looseness, he could have some of the most explosive stuff in this class in a few years. As it is, his stuff is already very good and he was ranked #25 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and like many of the pitchers in this showcase, he did not show as good as he can because he, like those others, were throwing for the guns. He pitches from a 3/4 slot with a long, loose, and clean arm action. His stroke and delivery are free and easy, starting with an over the head delivery. It was nice to see a young pitcher with an idea of how to create that type of rhythm in his delivery and it works well. Blair touched up to 93 and pitched in the 89-92 range, without a lot of effort. The ball comes out of his hand easily and to see a 92 on the gun at times was quite surprising. He pitched in with the fastball well and at times there was bore type action on the arm side. He showed a 75 mph sweeping breaking ball that can work well as a complement to his fastball. When he was at his most patient throwing that pitch it was pretty good, the type that can either sweep off the plate or possibly be used by starting at the front hip of a RH hitter and locking him up. Blair has a great slot for the change-up and he showed plus feel of his 78-79 change-up. That pitch has plus action down in the zone, with fade away from LH hitters. He is athletic on the mound and in some ways looked similar to Jake Peavy of the Padres. That is a big comparison, but give him some time... that being said, he is a high level D1 prospect and will also get some crosschecker attention this spring.

Seth Blair is a 2007 RHP/SS with a 6'2'', 190 lb. frame from Rock falls IL, who attends Rock Falls HS. He's a top quality athlete with a well proportioned build and good projection. We understand that he's a very good basketball player, too, and that's easy to see from his athletic movements. Blair was the best prospect at the Indoor Showcase and really elevated himself onto the national stage for 2007 prospects. He has an easy, balanced delivery and a low to mid 3/4's release point. Blair's arm action is very fast and tension free. His fastball was 89-92 mph and has plus/plus boring and sinking action. A couple of the college coaches at the showcase asked him to throw a few 2-seamers and they just disappeared at the plate and still were in the low 90's. Blair's breaking ball was a 75 mph curveball that had very sharp spin and bite at times. His release point was inconsistent on his curveball so sometimes he got under it and it hung a bit. Blair threw two types of change ups, a regular "straight" change that had good arm speed and sinking action and a split finger that had nice tumbling action at times. Both were quality offerings, although his pitching coaches at the next level will likely take away the split until he's older. Blair is a top level national prospect who we can see throwing hard sinkers in the 93-95 mph range with no problem. Every top college program in the country will need to follow him and the pro scouts will need to see him. Blair is also a very good student.
