Eric Callender -- Callender is a 6-3, 190 lb. sophomore first baseman/pitcher who is very physically mature and strong for his age. He has a calm set up at the plate with a good load and trigger and good bat speed. Callender hit some balls hard to right centerfield in batting practice, which we always like to see in a young hitter, but also turned on the ball as well. Callender is going to keep getting stronger if he works at it and his bat’s just going to get better. Callender also threw 3 innings for us and showed that he could very well be a pitching prospect as well. He has a stable lower half to his delivery, with a simple, balance approach and a short backside. Callender’s fastball was 80-81 mph with some tail to it. His out pitch was a hard 72 mph curveball that had a late, hard break to it and has potential to be a top pitch in the future. Only an "06" keep a close eye on him.
