MARIETTA, Ga. – Kentucky Baseball Club 15u Blue (7-1-1) fell 8-0 to the number five seed East Cobb Astros 15u (9-0) on Thursday morning in a second round playoff game at the 2012 WWBA 15u National Championship.

The Astros roughed up Kentucky starting pitcher Alex Daniel to the tune of seven runs (two earned) in three and a third innings while also limiting Kentucky’s bats to one hit.

Anytime you play the East Cobb Astros, you know that you’ve pretty much got to be almost perfect,” said Kentucky Baseball Club 15u Blue head coach Kevin Goins after the 9 a.m. matchup. “They’ve got a team of guys who’ll be upper-level Division I players and or draft prospects.”

The loss ended for the Nicholasville, Ky.-based team’s tournament stay.

Anytime you come down here with wood bats, obviously that’s an equalizer,” Goins said. “The talent in our pool, top to bottom, was better than most years that I’ve come down here. We enjoyed coming down here. It’s kind of a measuring stick of where our program and skill level are at. I’m tickled to death to walk out of here 7-1-1 and survive pool play with no losses.”

Goins said the organization enjoys how “well-run” Perfect Game events have been over the years and should continue to be in the future.

We appreciate everything that Perfect Game does as far as allowing these guys an opportunity to be exposed,” Goins said. “We look forward to not only the summertime stuff at East Cobb but also Fort Myers and Jupiter in the fall.”
