Top Prospects, 2011 Spring Top

1.        RHP Calvin Mathews (2012/Davis County HS, IA):  The 6-2, 190 lb Mathews has the chance to be the best Iowa prep pitcher since Tampa Bay right hander Jeremy Hellickson.  He topped out at 91 mph with a hard downer 75 mph breaking ball and projects to throw harder in the future.

2.        LHP Braden Shull (2011/Mt. Pleasant HS, IA):  Shull has been the most impressive 2011 prospect in Iowa this spring, as he’s bumped his velocity up to the 88-90 mph range through better use of his lower half in his delivery.  The Kansas State signee should get plenty of late scouting attention.

3.        LHP/OF Austin Christensen (2011/Kennedy HS, IA):  There was plenty of talk about whether the 6-6, 210 lb Christensen is a hitter or pitcher at the next level and the answer is lik
