College Top 25: March 25

Vincent Cervino      Craig Cozart
Well, here we go again, another week of college baseball and another week of complete chaos in the polls. In a typical year, at this point things are starting to take shape, the national scene is coming into focus and the “top clubs” will only drop a game here or there. But it seems like 2024 is the season of the unpredictable, as teams that are on a roll, not only lose a series but are getting swept. Beyond that, we used to see the occasional mid-week upset and now it seems almost commonplace, so let’s get to it.

The Arkansas Razorbacks (19-3) hold onto the No. 1 spot in the poll after winning a tight series on the road at Auburn, including an amazing 1-0 victory in Game 1 where they punched out 17 as a staff. No. 2 Clemson (22-2) jumps two spots as they lead the nation in wins and have played the toughest slate in the nation to this point. The Oregon State Beavers (21-2) had a perfect week and are No. 3 this week as they continue to flex their offensive muscle. The most controversial team in the polls is without a doubt, the No. 4 Florida Gators (14-9) with the most losses of any team in the poll but have also won back-to-back weekend series against teams that were ranked in the Top-5 at the time. Texas A&M (19-3) returns to No. 5 after taking care of business on the weekend against upstart Mississippi State.

Dallas Baptist (19-4) just keeps on winning and move up to No. 7 this week and don’t look like they will slow down anytime soon. The Virginia Cavaliers (20-4) join the exclusive 20-win club and return to No. 10 in the poll. The Kentucky Wildcats (20-4) are big movers this week as they sit atop the SEC East and ascend to No. 15 with their hot conference start. We have had the Virginia Tech Hokies (18-4) waiting in the wings for a couple weeks and on the strength of their explosive bats vaults to No. 17 this week. South Carolina (19-5) force their way back into the poll at No. 18 after their convincing home sweep of Vanderbilt. Finally, Kansas State (17-6) returns to the rankings at No. 25 this week having won 9 games in a row and currently sit in second place in the Big-12.
