Tyler Smith is a 2018 RHP/3B, 1B with a 6-3 225 lb. frame from Oxford, MS who attends Oxford. Large frame with excellent present strength and overall physicality. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.63 seconds. Primary right-handed pitcher, stays tall on backside when gathering over rubber, drives downhill with good direction and lower half usage, short arm stroke through the back with good arm speed. Extends well out front at release, fastball worked 80-83 MPH and touched as high as 85 MPH with good riding life. Slider shows tight spin and good horizontal shape, flashed changeup as well with some fading action down in the zone. Went right after hitters with attacking mentality, good job of pounding the zone. Sets up to hit from upright, open-based stance with high hands and back elbow. Coils hip into load, uncoils well with good hip torque and lower half drive, gets barrel out front with bat speed and clean hand path. Good loft in swing, driving the ball deep with consistency and backspin, showed he could go to all fields with power. Showed good footwork around the bag at 1st base, fields clean with soft hands and good hip bend, moves well to both sides and shows accuracy across the diamond up to 77 MPH. Named to 2016 Southeast Underclass Showcase Top Prospect List, good student.
