Jose Gutierrez is a 2018 RHP with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Santa Domingo, SD who attends Cenapec HS. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout, quick-twitch muscle to him. Primary righthanded pitcher, simple side step moving into delivery, loads weight on backside while gathering over the rubber, occasionally lands open with front side and out of sync with halves. Full and loose arm stroke through the backside, works to a three-quarters arm slot to occasionally high three-quarters and does a nice job to get on top of the ball and generate plane. Attacked hitters with fastball, topped out at 87 mph and maintained velocity well, shows ability to locate to glove side with occasional cut action, flashes short sinking life when down in the zone. Misses bats with fastball, projects for additional velocity. Spun a short and tight slider up to 80 mph, maintained arm slot and release point well.
