2016 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Takashi Umino is a 2017 RHP with a 5-9 180 lb. frame from Naka, IB who attends Mitokiryo. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.56 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and maintains direction well while driving to the plate. Releases from an extended three-quarters arm slot that produced big running action at times with fastball. Fastball primarily sat in the low 80's, topping at 84 mph. Shows two planes of breaking balls with a curveball, slider combination. Has very good command of the curveball that has softer spin with some depth. Flashed the ability to throw curveball in positive and negative counts for strikes. Slider has good depth with solid tilt when working to glove side. Consistently works to the bottom of the strike zone while effectively changing speeds and keeping hitters off balance. Has good presence and composure while on the mound with good knowledge of pitching. Named to the 2016 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
