Masahiro Ban is a 2017 LHP/OF with a 5-8 147 lb. frame from Ota, TK who attends Yokohama Hayato HS. Compact frame with a lean build. Frame shows plenty of room for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.07 sixty yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step delivery to leg lift. Stays tall on back side at balance and utilizes lower half while while driving to the plate. Front foot lands in line with the plate while clearing hips with ease to finish. Releases from a three-quarters arm slot with a tight arm circle in back. Hides the baseball well with a quick arm action that provide good life through the zone with fastball offering. Fastball jumped on hitters quickly topping at 81 mph showing occasional running action to arm side. Slows arm speed slightly with changeup offering but flashed late fading action down in the zone. Slider has 3/7 shape with tight rotation and good late depth as well when working to glove side. Shows good feel for each pitch and effectively pounded the bottom of the strike zone. Also worked out defensively from the outfield. Aggressively closes to the baseball with athletic actions. Fundamental footwork while working through transition with clean exchanges. Arm works well as baseball came cleanly, topped at 78 mph. Throws created accurate, on line carry to the bag. Left handed hitter with a balanced stance and high hand set. Leans on back side slightly while showing an uphill swing plane through extension. Swung with intent to drive the baseball in the air to the gaps. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition.
