Ryoji Schwartz is a 2019 C/ with a 5-7 154 lb. frame from Cortlandt Manor, NY who attends Hendrick Hudson High School. Athletic, square shouldered frame with a young, projectable build and lean body with room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.69 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, low set behind the plate and shows a short stride coming out, upright at release, repeats actions well, quick transfer into a short arm action and shows a tight release, on top of throws and shows consistent accuracy to the bag, arm strength and carry will continue to develop. Also pitched, deliberate tempo to delivery, raises front leg up to belt, shows balance and good directionality towards the plate. Similar compact arm slot with a tight release from an over-the-top slot, topped out at 77 mph, mostly true in life with occasional subtle life to the arm side, flashed a curveball at 68 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high back elbow and a slightly open stance in the box, does a nice job of getting closed prior to contact with a toe tap trigger. Short and inside path to the ball, shows a feel for the barrel and repeats mechanics well. Generates occasional life to swing as well as extension out front, contact approach, strength will continue to develop.
