Kenta Tanaka is a 2017 RHP with a 5-7 144 lb. frame from Yamato, KN who attends Nihon Kohku HS. Compact frame with a lean build. Frame shows plenty of room for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.61 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a spread lower half in a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Creates a slight pause at balance point while staying tall on backside. Utilizes lower half well while creating good direction to the plate. Lands in line with the plate while clearing hips with ease and carries momentum well through finish. Releases from a three-quarters arm slot that created good deception through extension. Fastball has solid riding life through the zone with occasional sinking action down in the zone, topped at 81 mph. Curveball has 9/4 shape with good spin and depth when working to glove side. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with curveball offering. Flashed a changeup as well that had good depth with solid fade. Shows changeup to both righties and lefties with a deceptive arm speed. Effectively changed speeds throughout each inning consistently keeping hitter off balance. Very good command of all three pitches and can spot each to both edges of the plate.
