Charles Nelson is a 2017 RHP/MIF with a 5-11 145 lb. frame from Los Angeles, CA who attends Loyola. Medium frame with a compact, athletic build. Frame shows plenty of room for additional size with strength. Ran a 8.08 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a slightly crouched start while on the mound. Simple, side step delivery to leg lift. Creates some downward plane to the plate while driving with lower half. Releases from a low three-quarters to near side arm slot. Produces some running action with sink when staying extended through finish. Fastball primarily sat in the mid 60's, topping at 67 mph. Flashed good feel for curveball offering that showed sweeping shape to glove side in the low 60's. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing deliberate footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball with clean glove actions from a slightly deeper position. Moves well to each side flashing extended range when working to glove side. Throws generated some carry across the infield with accuracy, topped at 65 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance. Shows high energy actions while launching to contact on a compact path. Primarily worked the baseball to the middle of the field with a line drive approach. Consistently squared up baseball throughout batting practice with occasional jump to the gaps. Tools will continue to develop at the play with continue physical maturity. Outstanding student as well.
