College Top 25: April 29

Vincent Cervino      Craig Cozart
For what feels like the first time this season, things are starting to come into focus on a national level. The real contender’s for national seeds, as well as host sights for the NCAA tournament are stepping forward while others have fallen away. With just three weeks left in the regular season, conference races are tightening up and those difficult mid-week matchups become that much more important as every point in the RPI has significant postseason repercussions.

No. 1 Texas A&M (38-6) continues to lead the nation in wins and No. 2 Arkansas (37-7) continues to hold a slim lead in the SEC West. Tennessee (37-7) had a flawless week sticking at No. 3, while No. 4 Clemson (34-9) had a crazy week and won an intense series at Louisville. Meanwhile, East Carolina (35-8) continues to plow its way to the top and with their (4-0) week ascend to No. 5 for the first time.

Florida State (34-9) jumps back up to No. 6 after winning the series at No. 8 Duke (30-14) and UC Irvine (32-8) is our biggest mover at they join elite company at No. 10 after their perfect week. Indiana State (31-9) holds firm at No. 14 as they strengthen their lead in the Missouri Valley and one of the hottest teams in the country, UC Santa Barbara (28-11), moves up to No. 17 after sweeping longtime rival Cal State Fullerton.

We have three changes from last week’s poll as South Carolina (29-14) returns at No. 22 after their series win at home against now No. 11 Kentucky (33-9). No. 22 San Diego (30-12) makes their first appearance of the year as they have steadily put together quite the resume on the year. Mississippi State (29-15) reappears at No. 23 after winning the series at No. 16 Vanderbilt (31-13) after the Commodores won the first game of the weekend.
