College Top 25: May 19

Well just like that we have come to the conclusion of the 2025 regular season and prepare for what is sure to be an amazing postseason. It feels like we say it every year, but the parody of college baseball continues to grow and there doesn’t really seem to be a frontrunner for the favorite to win the National Championship. Life at the top of the poll has been a volatile spot all year long but the No. 1 LSU Tigers (42-13) remain the top team in the land for a second week. They head to Hoover for the SEC Tournament after taking their series in Columbia, South Carolina to finish the season (19-11) in league play.

The Oregon Ducks (41-13) move up a spot to No. 2 this week after they swept Iowa on the road to dethrone the Hawkeyes and secure a share of the Big Ten regular season championship with a (22-8) conference record. No. 3 UNC (39-12) went to Tallahassee and took down now No. 11 FSU (37-13) as both teams finished a half game out of first in ACC play. No. 4 Georgia (42-14) and Arkansas (43-12) round out the Top-5, and No. 9 Coastal Carolina (44-11) is second in the nation in wins and took the Sun Belt regular season crown outright.

Dallas Baptist (38-14) sticks at No. 13 after winning the CUSA title and No. 16 UCLA (39-15) moves up a spot and took home a share of the Big Ten regular season. UTSA (42-11) ran away with the AAC title and are up to No. 17, meanwhile, Georgia Tech (38-16) jumps in at No. 18 after taking the series at Duke and securing the ACC regular season pennant. UC Irvine (39-13) is No. 19 this week on the heels of winning the Big West Conference and Northeastern (45-9) moves up to No. 22 having won 24-games in a row and winning the CAA by a whopping 6-games. Kansas (42-14) is back in at No. 22 after they swept now No. 23 West Virginia (40-13) and tied the Mountaineers for the Big 12 title. Finally, No. 25 TCU (37-17) is back in the rankings and could have a case as a NCAA Tournament host if they make a run in the conference tournament.

URBANDALE, IA - 2025 16u Perfect Game Elite Iowa Showcase, September 13 - 14, 2025, saw 17 teams not only compete against each other, but also against unseasonably warm temperatures reaching the mid nineties during both days of competition. As expected, there were several top performers that showcased their skills during the weekend, and when it was all said and done, it was Iowa Aries 16u Ce Black taking the Championship with a hard fought 4 - 3 win over a tough Iowa Gold Mathews team. Below are some of the individual top performers from the Elite Iowa Showcase. Earning Tournament MVP was Elliot Gress (2028 Clive, IA) of Iowa Aries 16u Ce Black. Gress, a 3B\RHP, sets up tall in the box, and with a slow and deliberate move for timing and weight transfer, collects at the back foot before striding to initiate her launch phase.  Showing good tilt and turn, with accelerated bat speed,...

Kernels Scout Notes Recap

Tyler Kotila
Article Image
Clancy Rogers (2026, Glenview, Ill.) is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitting outfielder & corner infielder. He has a bigger frame and build, with a stocky and strong look. He sets up with a wider and spread base, the hands deep, and loads up deep on the backside. He makes an aggressive forward move through the zone and is able to impact the ball out in front. It’s a hands-driven stroke, with a quick bat, and good bat speed working through it. Rogers hit well this weekend and got it done at the plate overall. He hit .438, with a double, and 3 home runs on the weekend, plating 12 runs for his Wow Factor North 2026 National squad. Rogers is currently uncommitted.  Justin Canvin (2026, Oak Lawn, Ill.) has a compact 5-foot-10, 193-pound frame, with strength present throughout the build. He’s a right-handed hitter who has a wider and spread base, with a slightly...

Fall South Kickoff Scout Notes

Isaiah Burrows
Article Image
Jancarlos Ortiz (2027, Humble, Texas) moved back to The Lone Star State and is a serious uncommitted talent to keep tabs on. He can simply wear it out to all fields, with a sound right-handed hit tool that creates lift and backspin to the gaps. He’s a solid athlete budding strength and some versatility to play both infield and outfield, though projects more at a corner spot at the next level. The hit and power upside is evident and one to monitor playing for Atascocita High School. Reid Truett (2028, Cypress, Texas) is a gamer in so many facets. A twitchy athlete who can pick it a good bit at short and lived on the barrel all weekend. There is intent and quickness to the path that should only mature, and the foot speed is evident the way he impacts a game. He slows it down and plays at a real good pace. One of the standouts of the entire weekend.  Jack Perez (2027, Cypress,...

West Coast Champions Cup Notes: Day 3

Steve Fiorindo

West Coast Champions Cup Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 Austin Brett, RHP, Millikan HS (2026) Second look at Brett on the weekend on the mound, athletic kid, moves well, and can really spin the breaking ball.  Regularly spin north of 2500’s, with varying shape, top down, 12-6 and gets more horizontal action at times, often when throwing firmer, with the pitch working 75-77.  The offering was landed for strikes and whiff.  Firmer in his first outing on Friday, working 86-89 in this look.  Moves well on the mound, athletic kid.  Has upside as the frame matures.  Currently uncommitted.  Aidan Harty, RHP, Mater Dei HS (2026) Strong outing for the Trosky righty.  Allowed just two base hits over his three innings of work, and quickly erased both on double play balls.  Punched out 4 in this look attacking hitters with the fastball to 88.  Got...

Fall World Series Scout Notes: Days 3-4

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Fall World Series Scout Notes: Days 1-2 John Crandall (2028 - Lexington, KY) made sure to make an impact as pool play concluded this morning, with the loudest contact at Aviation this morning. Crandall profiles well as a middle of the order bat utilizing a strong and athletic frame at the plate that can generate backspin and carry. In his final plate appearance of the weekend, Crandall stepped to the dish and connected on a ground-rule 2B to the opposite field. The Kentucky native creates good leverage through his swing path and can impact the baseball to all parts of the field making it look relatively easy in the process.  Morris’ big day continues in his first AB of bracket play, driving this ball the other way with authority for an RBI 3B, consistent impact to all parts. #FallPGWS #RollTide commit https://t.co/NktOhUDh5p pic.twitter.com/yfZ6XpJtWT — Perfect Game...

West Coast Champions Cup Scout Notes: Day 1 Cohen Plewe, RHP, Skyridge HS (2027) The primary catcher closed things out on the bump for BPA tossing 2 2/3 innings of one hit, shutout ball.  Good frame, athletic mover, ran the fastball to 86 and showed good feel for the breaking ball in low to mid 70s.  Good spin on the breaker, in to mid 2500s with moderate break.  Used the deuce to hitters from both sides, showing the ability to go back door to lefties.  Interesting look on the bump for the primary catcher.  Currently uncommitted.  Max Tello, RHP, Eastlake HS (2026) Dominant outing for the righty, punching out 8 over 3 2/3 innings of work showing a four pitch mix.  88-90 early with a slight dip later in to the outing on the fastball with life.  Featured a slurvey breaker 74/75 that peaked at 79 with late lateral action, and a slower, more vertical...
