Chris Downes is a 2022 C/OF with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Plainview, NY who attends Bethpage. Recorded a 5.23 second forty-yard dash time. Compact, medium frame with some present lower half strength and room to physically mature. Primary catcher that receives softly from a low, slightly side-saddle stance with quick footwork out of the crouch and positive movements towards his target. Displayed quick mid-line transfers into transition to throw, while working into an elongated arm action, recorded arm strength up to 73 mph from behind the plate. Right-handed hitter that hits from a balanced, even stance with a high hand set, high back elbow and small hover trigger. Slightly lofted stroke with compact hand path, present bat speed and consistent bat-to-ball skills. Gap-to-Gap approach with the ability to deliver the barrel on-time and with some authority. Solid overall skill set with good fundamentals, will continue to improve with minor mechanical adjustments and additional strength. Good Student.
