John (Will) Dawkins is a 2022 RHP/1B/3B with a 6-4 215 lb. frame from Rockingham, NC who attends Richmond. Posted a 7.36 in the 60 yard dash. Tall and lean frame projects on the mound. Primary pitcher, the right hander ran the fastball up to 82 mph and flashed a good breaking ball showing tight spin and 11/5 shape with depth. Worked from the stretch, gets downhill clean and has great extension out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball showed great cutting life, difficult action to square up for hitters. Has a lot of potential on the mound to be intrigued about with added strength. The frame works very well and is a good enough athlete to make adjustments. Right handed hitter, short swing for the build not showing much extension through contact. Some knowledge of the barrel and strength in the hands are present, gets the swing on plane early but cuts off the path. Swings off the backside, looks a bit stuck fighting against the lower half to finish the swing. Sprayed gap to gap connections. Good moving pieces he can put together for a more effective swing using the good strength. Good student.
