PG Grade: 7
John Espana is a 2008 C/1B/3B with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Tracy CA, who attends Tracy HS. He has a rangy, athletic body type with room to continue to fill out. Espana's abilities and athleticism make him a solid college follow prospect. At the plate he showed good bat speed and has hands that work well throughout his swing. Though his hips seemed to work a bit early, he showed decent timing to the contact point. For the most part he is a spray hitter, but did show some power potential. Defensively Espana has a chance to develop into a solid college catcher. He throws accurately and does not rush himself when making throws. His transfer is good and will get better the more he works at it. Espana is pretty agile, which allows him to sit well as a target and will serve his blocking efforts well too.
