Ben Smith is a 2023 RHP/3B with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Springfield, MO who attends Springfield Catholic High School. Large and physical frame with long limbs and a high waist, projectable with time to continue to fill out. Ran a 7.61 second 60 yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, athletic delivery with uptempo movements to his mechanics, starts windup with a side step up to a high leg lift, coils on the rubber and stays controlled working down the mound, generates arm speed through the back up to a high 3/4 arm slot, fastball has armside life topping out at 81 mph, mixes in a curveball from a similar arm angle, breaking ball has 11-5 shape and good depth, worked as a swing and miss pitch for him, can work to both sides of the plate with both of his pitches. Secondary third baseman, works through the baseball, arm strength plays well in the infield and actions play best at his primary third base position. Righthanded hitter, wide based stance at the plate, inside and strong hand path to the baseball, loft to his path, will unlock more pop with additional lower half involvement. Great student.
