Alex Montiel is a 2022 SS/RHP/IF with a 5-10 158 lb. frame from Buda, TX who attends Jack C Hays. Medium frame with broadness in shoulders and an athletic build. Ran a 7.88 second 60-yard dash. Worked out defensively as a primary shortstop. Moves well laterally with athletic strides to the ball and staying light on feet. Glove plays well with soft hands out front into a funnel to the body. Quick release into harder and accurate carry to the bag topping out at 82 miles per hour. Righthanded hitter setting up in a slightly open stance. Utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing. Hands stay tight throughout swing creating some jump when barreled. Works to the gaps with some projection at the plate. Secondary righthanded pitcher working from the stretch. Slower delivery to the plate with repeatability from a three-quarters slot. Feel for edges of the plate with the fastball at 74 miles per hour and can get hitters to reach. Slower and soft curveball with feel for the zone. Firm changeup mixing well and getting quick outs.
