Ian Torpey is a 2020 RHP/3B with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from San Jose, CA who attends Pioneer HS. Medium athletic build, some present strength with room for plenty more. Simple turn and throw mechanics on the mound, high 3/4's to over the top on his release, gets downhill well, slow paced delivery with some late energy to the plate, repeats his mechanics well. Fastball topped out at 83 mph, very consistent velocity, last pitch after 4 innings was 82, mostly straight with occasional arm side life. Downer curveball has some tightness and depth, works best when he's mixing his pitches, works quickly and fills up the strike zone. Two-way prospect, has bat speed as a right handed hitter and made very consistent hard square contact both in batting practice and in games. 7.23 runner, has soft quick hands defensively at third base and makes accurate throws, shows his overall athleticism well.
