Scott Sammons is a 2007 left hand hitting 1st baseman from Searcy HS, residing in Searcy, AR. Sammons has a thick, physical build on a stout 6'0" 210 lb. frame. Do not let his physical appearance fool you, he can hit. Sammons slugged his way to being ranked #92 among PG National Top 100 position players and certainly drew some very favorable attention. He hits from a closed stance and showed very good hands. His timing was good he got his swing started on time. Sammons has a short stroke that produces above average power, evident when he went deep, hitting a towering home rum over the right field wall in one of the games. The pitch he hit was an 89 mph fastball on the inner half and he jumped on it. He is short to the ball but gets good extension through contact and generally stayed inside the ball nicely. He can go to the pull side and not hook the ball into foul territory. Sammons has good bat speed and gap to gap pop. With a metal bat he is likely to put up huge numbers in college, not only power numbers, but also for good batting average. He can really swing the bat. On defense Sammons is an adequate player, giving you what you might expect from a stocky bodied first baseman. His arm is approaching average and his hands are good. Sammons ran 4.58 home/1st, with a 7.65 60 yard dash time. He may not get a ton of draft interest, but there are going to be some area scouts that turn in this left handed bat, and they should. Sammons looks likely bound for college and will slug his way to a future professional opportunity if he can keep his physique in check and continue to stay strong without becoming stiff.
