Michael Mallas is a 2020 C with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Lutherville, MD who attends Gilman High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and has present strength with additional room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.47 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, starts with a compact set behind the plate in drills, receives the ball out front, short and quick transfer into compact arm action, strides slightly open with front side while gaining short ground with lower half. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Upper body dominant swing and utilizes hands well in swing. Stays short to the ball and shows simple mechanics, able to repeats and shows carry off the barrel while working gap-to-gap with back spin off the barrel; will continue to unlock additional strength with incorporation of lower half into shift. Good student.
