Cal Johnston is a 2018 OF with a 6-4 224 lb. frame from Lansing, MI who attends Grand Ledge HS. Very big and physical build, lots of well proportioned strength. Very fast for his size, 6.80 in the sixty, has athletic actions on defense in the outfield and a long and loose arm action, smooth low effort release on his throws with good carry. Right handed hitter, hits from a closed stance with a short inside hand path, flashed some opposite field power but hitting approach doesn't fit his physical tools and gifts, can develop as a hitter with a more directional power oriented approach. Lots of potential with adjustments, follow closely. Good student.
