2017 PG Fall Top Prospect National Showcase
Anthony Vavaroutsos is a 2018 OF/LHP, 1B with a 5-11 185 lb. frame from Toronto, ON who attends Mary Ward Catholic Secondary. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength throughout frame. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, good first step moving towards the ball with smooth actions, creates momentum through release, quick exchange into a tight release and a high three-quarters release point, on line throws with present arm strength and carry on throws with accuracy. Also pitched, full arm action through the back working to an over-the-top release point, gets on top of the ball to generate short sinking life down in the zone up to 78 mph. Worked in the lower third well with occasional cut, commands the zone well and flashed 12-6 shaped curveball at 68 mph with depth. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing. Loads back at start of swing, creates extension out front and at the point of contact, incorporates physical strength well and shows jump off the barrel when squared. Gets the barrel through on time well with present bat speed, worked the pull side with comfort and showed ability to go to the opposite field. Named to Fall National Showcase Top Prospect List. Good student.
