Colby Knutzen is a 2019 RHP/OF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Blaine, WA who attends Blaine HS. Medium frame with a lean build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays with slightly coil over back leg at gather. Utilized lower half well while working to the plate with drop and drive actions. Released from a three-quarters slot generated solid downhill tilt through the zone with some run to arm side in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with tight spin and late, hard depth in the low 70's. Aggressively attacked the strike zone early in counts looking to work ahead of hitters. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing athletic, aggressive footwork while closing to the baseball. Funnels baseball off to side with clean glove actions. Efficient exchanges and released from a three-quarters slot. Throws produced on line carry to the bag topping at 82 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an open stance. Stays on back side throughout with rotational lower half actions to contact. Swung with intent and utilized a mid field to pull side approach producing some hard contact when squared. Named to the 2017 Northwest Showcase Top Prospect List. Good student as well.
