Mason Ampe is a 2021 RHP/1B with a 6-1 225 lb. frame from Detroit, MI who attends Belleville High School. Large, broad shouldered build with present strength proportioned throughout frame. Primary righthanded pitcher, begins delivery with a side step moving into a belt high leg lift with some load at balance point; compact and on line arm action through the back working to a high three-quarters release point. Lands closed with strike foot coming down the mound, can continue to work over front side at release. Fastball topped out at 86 mph, worked to the arm side and showed some life from release. Occasionally drops slot on curveball, shows 11-5 shape up to 72 mph; showed a straight changeup at 72 mph with a similar release point and arm speed. Righthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing, stays linear through the zone with swing plane and employs a pull side approach, strength off the barrel when squared. Good student.
