Joe Barrow is a 2019 RHP/1B, 3B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Raleigh, NC who attends Needham Broughton. Large frame with broad shoulders and a solid build. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple rock step to high leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Lands in line with the plate and carries momentum to target. Deep arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well creating heavy sink with run to arm side. Curveball showed 12/6 shape with tight spin and late, hard depth when staying on top of offering. Also flashed a changeup with occasional sink and run as well. Aggressive attacked the strike zone with all three pitches while displayed developing feel for the edges of the zone. Also worked out defensively from first base showing smooth paced footwork while ranging for and centering the baseball. Displayed soft hands while funneling the baseball and worked through exchange efficiently. Loose arm action while throwing across the infield and produced accurate, on line carry to the bag at 82 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, balanced stance and large leg lift trigger. Stays on back side and works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path to contact with a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension. Throws barrel head to contact aggressively and looks to create lift to the middle of the field and pull side gap. Generated good jump off the barrel when on time and squared. Very good student as well.
