2017 South Top Prospect Showcase
Caleb Flores is a 2018 3B/RHP/1B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Amarillo, TX who attends Amarillo HS. Large frame with a strong, athletic build. Primary third baseman with smooth paced, deliberate footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling with smooth exchanges while working through transition. Released from a compact three-quarters arm slot produced accurate carry across the infield, topped at 78 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple front side trigger. Shifts into contact well with linear lower half actions. Direct hand path to contact with a naturally lifted plane through extension. Smooth, fluid path through the zone and showed good balanced throughout. Primarily worked to the middle of the field and pull side gap showing good raw power throughout batting practice. Also pitched utilizing a simple rock step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed occasional downhill tilt through the zone sitting in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 miles per hour. Developing feel for a slider offering that had looser spin with occasional tilt in the low 70's. Also flashed a changeup in the low 70's. Consistently repeated arm action through each inning of work while consistently attacking hitters. Very good student. Named to the 2017 South Top Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
