Richard Hooks is a 2019 3B/RHP/MIF with a 5-6 165 lb. frame from Cameron, NC who attends Overhills HS. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Moves well, posted a 6.84 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, sound fundamentals working through the ball, fields the ball out front and shows quickness to footwork, shows arm strength and carry on throws across the diamond when working on top of the ball. Takes short steps to the ball in the outfield, fields ball to side, effort at release but nice carry to throws, reads hops well and fields cleanly. Also pitched, quick tempo on the mound, short arm action through the back and works to a high three-quarters release point. On line delivery, pitches to contact and able to miss barrels; fastball topped out at 77 mph, changeup shows downward life at 63 mph and shows comfort in throwing the pitch in any count. Switch-hitter, contact oriented approach from both side, more present feel from the right side. Begins with a wide base and uses a short weight shift through lower half; swings with intent through the zone, fuller path through the zone and creates contact to all fields. Short swing from the left side, inside path and looks to lift the ball to pull side. Very good student.
