2017 Midwest Underclass Showcase
Alex Callia is a 2020 RHP/3B, SS with a 5-8 170 lb. frame from Lee'S Summit, MO who attends Lees Summit North. Medium frame with broad shoulders and wiry strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced with slightly coil over back leg at gather. Works to the plate with drop and drive actions while landing at a slightly closed position. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a mid three-quarters slot. Flashed showed good jump out of hand with sink and run to arm side in the low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Curveball had 10/4 shape with good spin and solid depth in the mid 60's. Also flashed a deceptive changeup that created some sink to the bottom of the zone in the mid 70's. Aggressive attacked hitters early in counts, effectively stayed off barrel and induced weak contact with off speed. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing deliberate footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball from a slightly deeper position and works through exchange well. Generated accurate, on line carry across the infield while releasing from a three-quarters slot topping at 79 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, open stance. Hands load to a deep position and work to contact on a loose path. Barrel came through the zone on an uphill path producing solid leverage at contact. Consistently looked to lift the baseball with intent and work between the gaps. Good student. Named to the 2017 Midwest Underclass Showcase, Top Prospect List.
