Nick Guerena is a 2019 OF/SS with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Encinitas, CA who attends Cathedral Catholic HS. Medium frame with a strong, athletic build. Right handed hitter with a balanced stance, simple stride and high back elbow set. Creates some lower half shift into contact with rotational actions. Direct, compact path to contact with a line drive swing plane. Flashed leverage through extension at times. Very good balance throughout swing with a mid-field approach. Good strength at contact with ability to drive the gaps when timed. Worked out defensively from the outfield and infield. From the outfield smooth paced actions while closing on the baseball. Compact arm circle and separation, releases from a long, loose arm action. Creates low throws with some carry and accuracy to the bag, topped at 82 mph. From the infield shows fundamental glove skill with clean glove to hand exchanges while working through extension. Athletic actions while on the move with some range to both sides. Creates deliberate momentum to bage with a compact, high three-quarters arm action while throwing across. Good student as well.
