Max Nuckols is a 2020 RHP/C with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from South Pasadena, CA who attends Loyola. Large frame, solid build with beginnings of present strength. Projects for additional strength with continued physical maturity. Ran a 7.37 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a side set start to a simple rock step delivery. Creates some torque over back side due to front side coil at gather. Hips stay in line while driving to the plate and lands on a slightly closed front side. Landing position generates deceptive crossfire action at release. Primarily releases from a high three-quarters arm slot that produced some downward angle to the plate with a fastball that ranged between 74-78 miles per hour, topped at 80 miles per hour. Curveball has 11/5 shape with softer rotational and occasional depth, flashed sharper depth when staying on top of offering. Also showed a slider with 9/4 shape, slider flashed tighter rotation with solid sweeping action to glove side. Consistently worked the outside edge of the plate with all three pitches when staying balanced throughout delivery and repeating arm action. Also worked out defensively from behind the plate showing a slightly higher set while receiving the baseball. Generates some momentum while gaining ground to the bag when working out of crouch. Clean glove to hand exchanges and releases from a compact three-quarters arm slot. Throws generated some on line carry to the bag topping at 73 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.21. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and high back elbow set. Hands sink to a lower slot prior to launching to contact on an uphill plane through extension. Lower half generated some shift into baseball with linear actions. Flashes the barrel and hand skills to work to all fields when on time and staying behind contact point. Swings with intent and generates bat speed when working the baseball between the gaps. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and fluidity.
