Abimelec Ortiz is a 2020 OF/1B with a 6-0 205 lb. frame from Vega Baja, PR who attends Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy. Big and strong athletic build, looks taller and bigger than listed. Runs well for his size, 6.91 in the sixty. Long and loose arm action in the outfield, ball jumps out of his hand with very good carry, would be interesting to see on the mound. Left handed hitter, hits from an exaggerated high back elbow, wrapped barrel load, spread stance, creates big barrel whip with his strength and hand quickness, aggressive swing approach, attacks the ball with intent, showed big middle of the field power and carry, can shorten up his swing for better timing and more consistent barrel but power is definitely there. Good student, signed with Florida Southwestern State College. Named to the World Showcase Top Prospect List.
