David Melfi is a 2019 C/3B, OF with a 5-10 185 lb. frame from Jackson, NJ who attends Jackson Liberty High School. Medium, athletic frame with nice present strength proportioned well throughout frame. Primary catcher, begins with a compact set up behind the plate, receives the ball out front, quick transfer and release out of glove, gets tall at release and can continue to implement additional footwork to gain ground; simple and repeatable actions, on top of throws and shows accuracy down to second base with carry. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and a medium hand set with a high back elbow; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Short path to the ball and keeps hands inside the ball, linear path and shows carry off the barrel with physical strength. Upper body dominant swing, shows occasional backspin off the barrel to pull side when squared. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Wagner.
