John Carney is a 2020 RHP/1B, 3B with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from Mansfield, MA who attends Mansfield High School. Extra-large, athletic frame with projectable build and long limbs, room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, works with a short arm circle through the back and gets to a high three-quarters release point, occasionally throws from a three-quarters slot. Some effort in delivery but does a nice job of working on top of the baseball to generate plane on fastball, topped out at 83 mph with short running life and some tilt down in zone. Worked both sides of the plate and got ahead, helping to unlock secondary pitches. Curveball shows 11-5 shape at 64 mph with depth; shows nice hand speed on changeup with fading life at 72 mph. Developing footwork in the infield, fields the ball out front, hands work at the ball and shows a full arm action through the back prior to release. Righthanded hitter, begins with a spread stance and a high back elbow at the plate. Keeps hands inside through swing and stays short to the ball, shows carry off the barrel when squared and projects for additional strength with extension through the zone. Shows quickness to swing and has ability to turn on the ball. Named to Northeast Underclass Top Prospect List. Very good student.
