Ben Abernathy is a 2020 SS/RHP/C with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from Warrior, AL who attends Hayden HS. Medium build with an athletic frame and plenty of physical projection moving forward. Ran a 6.78 second 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, moves well to the ball showing athleticism throughout actions, solid glove skills showcasing a clean backhand, clean exchange with a slower release due to wind into throws, good arm strength topping out at 86 mph across the diamond. Also pitched, works exclusively from the stretch with an uptempo delivery that is modified with runners on base, quick and loose arm action up to a 3/4 arm slot, gets some good tilt with front shoulder and downward plane, fastball shows a cutting action to it topping out at 86 mph, locates well down in the zone, mixed in a 10/4 tight slider that worked as his out pitch. Righthanded hitter, wide base with a slightly open stance, high leg lift trigger uncoiling well into contact, shorter hand path to the ball, line drive approach with some bat speed and feel for the barrel, some leverage and back spin created repeating the swing well.
