Gavin Black is a 2022 C/RHP with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Bogart, GA who attends North Oconee. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, receives the ball out front, slight turn in set up during drills, pops straight out of crouch, shows looseness and arm strength on throws down to second base with carry. Also pitched, big side step moving into delivery, high leg lift with hip turn at top; compact arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 88 mph, short running life to it and maintained velocity well; 11-5 shape to curveball with sharp bite and depth in the mid-70s. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing with a hip coil at top. Occasionally gets mistimed, quick hands and creates bat speed through the zone, comfort working to pull side, can continue to refine timing components to swing. Very good student.
