Clay Sowell is a 2019 C/RHP, 3B, OF with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Kingwood, TX who attends Kingwood Park High School. Younger player with a medium build with an athletic frame and lots of room to continue to develop physically. Posted a 7.23 time in the 60 yard dash. Primary catcher with good lower half mechanics and a longer arm action with a pop time of 1.97. Also worked out in the infield, developing accuracy and fielded the ball clean with arm strength up to 84 mph. At the plate, started with an open, athletic stance with a stride to the ball. Longer swing that did generate good extension with hips that fire well towards the ball. Inconsistent timing that when improved will lead to more consistent timing. Also pitched, had an over the top release with a clean and easy delivery. Very low effort arm action with a fastball that worked 74-77/79 mph with true action. Also showed feel for a curveball that worked in the low 60's. Exceptional student.
