2016 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Ryan Gusto is a 2017 OF/RHP with a 6-4 180 lb. frame from Charlotte, NC who attends Providence High School. Extra-large frame, lean, slender build, broad shoulders, athleticism, and lots of room to continue to fill out physically and add strength. Posted a 7.11 time in the 60 yard dash. Primary outfielder, showed a long arm action, accuracy to the bag, and a crow hop into throws. Showed impressive arm strength up to 87 mph from the outfield. At the plate, a switch hitter who impressed more from the left side. Started with a tall base, open stance, deeper hand load, and a medium hand set. From the left side, showed quickness to hands with good bat speed, and a line drive swing plane. Worked up the middle and pull side with impact off the barrel. From the left side was more of a compact swing with a slower barrel. Also pitched, showed a long arm action, big arm circle, online landing, loads up weight well on backside, and finishes well through the ball. Extended three quarter arm slot with a repeatable delivery, and slight crossfire action. Fastball worked well to both sides with quickness to arm. Fastball showed 79-82/83 mph with good angle and ability to mix pitches. Curveball showed good depth with feel to spin it and burry it low in the zone. Ability to pitch backwards and keep hitters off balance. Named to Top Prospect List.
